Poised Taupe - A How to Guide for Traditional Decor

I must admit that I was a little surprised by this color selection from Sherwin Williams. Although it is a beautiful color and will work with everything, it is just a little warmer and strikingly similar to Revere Pewter, which has been a "neutral" staple in the decor world for several years.

Most paint companies choose their "Color of the Year" based on a number of factors, from global influences to the fashion industry.  And though they are not suggesting that everyone run out and paint their entire homes in their chosen color, they are stating that the color will be influential in decor and design for the year.

Some colors of the year, past and present, would be difficult to incorporate into your traditional home, but with Poised Taupe, it lends itself beautifully to whites, creams and golds that many of us already have in our homes.  The other beautiful thing about Poised Taupe is it can be mixed and matched with many accent colors.  A couple of my favorites include a pale beachy blue, such as Sherwin Williams Beach Glass or a sea foam tint such as Tidewater.

Vintage linens and a rustic French chair are a beautiful way to incorporate a touch of taupe. It keeps things neutral, but fills the space with texture. Nothing quite as striking or romantic as a stack of beautifully constructed, delicately washed linen pillow covers and ruffles.

My home is filled with vintage books of all shapes and sizes.  I love to group them together in vignettes by color or topic and top with a pretty topiary or trinket boxes.  Besides being valuable for what they contain, a book is a lovely decor accent.  One of my favorite quotes is "A book holds a house of Gold" - Chinese Proverb.

Creating tablescapes is one of my favorite things to do.  The gorgeous tablescape above uses white china, brass, crystal, silver and touches of taupe with natural elements so nicely.  It is at once understated and incredibly beautiful! What a wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon, preparing a stunning table in the whites and taupes of a peaceful winter landscape!

Who doesn't love a gorgeously ornate gilded mirror?  The tone on tone wallpaper in shades of taupe lends a beautifully intricate background on which to showcase such a masterpiece. Create your own by thrifting a mirror and giving it a coat of Old Gold paint.  It is guaranteed to set the most elegant mood!

These wool throws and blankets just beckon me to cuddle up on the sofa for a hot cup of tea and a fabulous read!  This is an easy way to add color and texture to your decor; just fold and stack a selection of blankets and throws, top with a stack of books and a flower.  Instant beauty!
